In his sped up Reclamation of Alkaline Argillaceous Soils of Azerbaijan, Professor Mukhtar Abduyev describes the tackling of a fashioned challenge which had huge, immense implications for Azerbaijan's safeguard of foodstuff offer. the duty used to be to discover extra effective tools of reclaiming the saline soils that lined greater than 60% of the republic's lowlands - a few 2.5 million hectares have been proof against development. present equipment of reclamation concerned titanic quantities of water for leaching and the development of intensive drainage platforms; those equipment may possibly take in to ten years to turn into powerful. Prof. Abduyev generally followed a realistic clinical procedure, learning quite a few tools of salt elimination and their impression on soils and the plants to be grown in them. He was once additionally a hugely revered instructor and was once without delay fascinated about box investigations, whilst delivering management and invaluable hands-on adventure for graduate scholars and learn employees. The quantity of salts in the maximum content layer of the upper zone of the plains nearly corresponds to the salt content in the so-called desalinized layer of the border strip zone. As for the salt composition, the diluvial soils are rich with sodium salts in nearly all parts of the plains; with hydrogen carbonate content [sic] of salts in the upper zone, sulfate content in the medium zone, and chloride content in the border strip zone. Regarding physical constants, the soils of the diluvial plains of Azerbaijan have characteristically high values of bulk density.
Recognizing this, and with a view to verifying results of our earlier small-plot experiments, we considered it necessary to select a production experimental locality in the territory of the given massif. Figure 1. System of irrigation of territory undergoing reclamation A site with area 50 hectares was chosen for experimental leaching. e. it covered the area between three drains. The western boundary of the site is a channel irrigator; the eastern boundary is a water intake. The southern part of the experimental site is adjacent to the main irrigator, which is shielded with the aid of a gravel-cement coating (Figure 1).
